Q9: Jodhaa Akbar Trailer

I love this film!!!!!!!!!  Seriously, it has everything: action, espionage, romance, humor, suspense, and a darn good score.  It appears that it was a real labor of love for the people involved in making the film and that transfers to the audience (or it did for me, at least).  Awesome film.

Watch and respond.

Q8: Veer-Zaara Trailer

Veer is Indian and Zaara is Pakistani.  While this is predominantly a love story, there are a lot of political undertones throughout the film.  I couldn't find subtitles again, but you can still comment on spectacle, visualization, etc.  (and I think you'll quickly figure out it's a love story)

Q7: Delhi 6 trailer

A.R. Rahman who composed for Slumdog Millionaire also composed for Delhi 6.  Watch the trailer.  Do you see any similarities between the two films?

Q6: Gandhi Trailer

This is probably the best film to understand the impact of one man on India's culture.  (Ben Kingsley is phenomenal.)

Q5: Slumdog Millionaire

Here is the official trailer to the popular film Slumdog Millionaire.  Watch and respond.  Connect to our readings.

Q4: A Wednesday Trailer

This film is about terrorism and India.  Although it is fictional, the approach is interesting.  Watch and respond.

Q3: Harishchanrachi Factory

This film is about the creation of India's first feature length film, Raja Harischandra.  I couldn't find it with subtitles, but I don't think that detracts from giving you the general idea of the film.

Keep in mind that if you should choose to watch any of these films, there is a subtitle feature in language selection on dvd menus.  (I'd advise against dubbing because the voice actors are usually horrendous and watching the lack of synchronization is painful, but that could just be my experience.  I like hearing the films the way they were meant to be heard.)

Watch and respond.

Q2: A Passage to India

I couldn't find a decent trailer for this film, but it really is good.  It's based off the classic book by EM Forster.  Both Judy Davis and Dame Peggy Ashcroft were nominated for Academy Awards (back when that meant something).  Here are two scenes that feature the ladies.  Unfortunately, those scenes don't give you an idea of what the film is about ...

Watch and respond.

Q1: Swades Trailer

This film is about an Indian man who moves to America and has to resolve conflicts between progress and tradition.  Watch and respond.
